Understanding our donation refund and cancellation policy

Introduction

At Global Family Aid, we greatly appreciate your generous donations that enable us to continue our humanitarian work around the world. We understand that sometimes circumstances change, and this refund policy explains our approach to donation refunds and cancellations.

Please read this policy carefully before making a donation. By completing a donation through our website, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this refund policy.

General Refund Policy

All donations made to Global Family Aid are generally considered final and non-refundable. This is because:

  • Donations are typically processed immediately and allocated to ongoing programs and emergency relief efforts
  • We operate as a charitable organization with overhead costs associated with processing donations
  • Many donations are used immediately for time-sensitive humanitarian needs

However, we understand that errors can occur, and we will consider refund requests under certain circumstances as outlined below.

Eligible Refund Requests

We will process refund requests in the following situations:

  • Technical errors: If a technical error resulted in you being charged more than once for the same donation, or if you were charged an incorrect amount
  • Unauthorized charges: If someone made an unauthorized donation using your payment method
  • Processing errors: If we made an error in processing your donation
  • Cancelled campaigns: If you donated to a specific campaign that was subsequently cancelled before the funds were utilized

All refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the original donation date. Refund requests submitted after this period will generally not be considered, except in exceptional circumstances.

Non-Eligible Refund Requests

Refund requests will not be processed in the following situations:

  • Change of mind: Simple changes of heart about making a donation
  • Financial hardship: Personal financial difficulties arising after the donation was made
  • Dissatisfaction with programs: Disagreement with how we allocate funds or operate our programs (we encourage you to contact us first to discuss any concerns)
  • Tax deduction issues: Problems related to tax deductions or donor's tax situation
  • Delayed receipt of tax receipts: Normal processing times apply for tax receipts

Recurring Donations

Monthly Giving Program: If you have set up a recurring monthly donation, you may cancel your recurring donation at any time by:

  • Logging into your donor account on our website and updating your donation preferences
  • Contacting us directly via email at donations@globalfamilyaid.org or by phone
  • Sending a written request to our office address

Please note that cancelling a recurring donation will stop future charges but will not refund donations that have already been processed. You must submit cancellation requests at least 5 business days before your next scheduled donation date to ensure the next donation is not processed.

How to Request a Refund

To request a refund, please follow these steps:

  1. Contact us as soon as possible after making the donation
  2. Send an email to refunds@globalfamilyaid.org with the subject line 'Refund Request'
  3. Include the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Email address used for the donation
    • Donation date and amount
    • Transaction reference number (if available)
    • Detailed explanation of why you are requesting a refund
    • Any supporting documentation (if applicable)
  4. Our team will review your request and respond within 7-10 business days

Refund Processing Time

If your refund request is approved:

  • Refunds will be processed within 14 business days of approval
  • Refunds will be issued to the original payment method used for the donation
  • Depending on your financial institution, it may take an additional 5-10 business days for the refund to appear in your account
  • You will receive an email confirmation once the refund has been processed

Please note that we cannot expedite refunds once they have been initiated, as processing times are dependent on your financial institution.

Tax Implications

Important tax information regarding refunds:

  • If you received a tax receipt for your donation and subsequently receive a refund, you must not claim that donation as a tax deduction
  • We will issue an amended tax receipt or a notice of cancelled donation for your records
  • You are responsible for notifying your tax advisor of any refunded donations
  • Refunded donations cannot be used for tax deduction purposes

We strongly recommend consulting with a tax professional if you have questions about how a refund may affect your tax situation.

Alternative Options

Before requesting a refund, you may want to consider these alternatives:

  • Redirecting your donation: We can redirect your donation to a different campaign or program area that you prefer
  • Future credit: We can hold your donation as a credit toward a future donation
  • Splitting your donation: We can divide your donation among multiple programs
